About Games Like NYT

Games Like NYT is a guide for people who play the New York Times puzzles every morning and want something more once they are done. It goes through the NYT lineup and, for each puzzle, names a free game on Gamefinity that shares its idea, or says plainly that none does.

What this site is

Games Like NYT is a guide to free games like NYT Games that you can play in your browser. It lists 12 of them, closest first. Every game here is free to play on Gamefinity.io, and every Play button opens the game there, with no download and no sign-up.

Not affiliated with NYT Games or The New York Times Company. Wordle, Connections, Strands, Spelling Bee and the other NYT Games named here belong to The New York Times Company. We name NYT Games and its puzzles only to say what these games are compared with.

How the games are chosen

A game earned its place by sharing something concrete with an NYT puzzle: the rule, the board, the gesture or the once-a-day rhythm. Each one is described from its own rules and placed by how close it comes, and the puzzles with no honest match, such as the crosswords, Connections, Letter Boxed and Pips, are left without one.

This is not a list of every game like NYT Games. It is a short list of free games on Gamefinity that share something with it (today: Wordlock, Anagram Blitz, Exactly, Sudoku Sprint, Letter Grid, Word Search Rush, Mahjong Minute, Daily IQ, Synonym Sprint, Common Ground, Daily Trivia, Vowel Stealer). Each entry says what the game has in common with NYT Games and, just as plainly, what is different, so you can tell whether it is for you before you press Play. What the guide says about a game comes from that game's own rules and settings, and the list changes when the games on Gamefinity do.
